Józef Piłsudski became the first Marshal of Poland, and Commander-in-Chief of Polish troops during the Polish-Soviet War of 1920, including the pivotal Battle of Warsaw, known as the Miracle on the Vistula. He had two wives and was unfaithful to both.
Maria Skłodowska-Curie was a courageous and controversial figure. She was the first woman to join the Sorbonne's physics faculty and also the first female lecturer there. Maria was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes, in Physics in 1903 and in Chemistry in 1911.
